The Volkswagen VW Golf has been named Car of the Year at the New York Auto Show, based on voting by a panel of journalists.
"The competition is extremely strong and the job very difficult, but this was a very important program for us," Walter da Silva, Volkswagen Group's global design director, told reporters after the announcement, according to MSNBC.

As far as the question goes, my wife owns a 2003 volkswagen passat 1.8t 4 cylinder with the automatic transmission.
