The Visita Iglesia tradition of worship-hopping from church to church during Lent is said to have originated during the Spanish colonial era. Visita Iglesia is an age-old practice in the Philippines wherein Filipino Catholics visit seven churches in vigil of the Blessed Sacrament, and in contemplation of the agony of Christ.
