Winter Storm Juno: Blizzard Warning in NYC

BEFORE & AFTER PICS

Panic buying in NY

Millions of people in New York East Coast are bracing for Winter Storm Juno, which will become a major snowstorm today through Wednesday with the potential for blizzard conditions and expecting 2-3 feet of snow.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a press conference Sunday, "This could be the biggest snowstorm in the history of NYC. Prepare for the worst than what you have ever seen.” The National Weather Service (NWS) and Weather Channel meteorologist Chris Dolce have both said the impending storm is “potentially historic." States of emergency have been declared in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. All NYC Subway, Metro North, Long Island Railroad, and MTA Bus service will be suspended effective 11:00 PM. All non-emergency vehicles are banned from New York City streets starting at 11pm ET Monday. Most major bridges in and out of New York City will be closed beginning at 11 p.m. ET. As of this update, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge is not among the bridges to be closed. New York City public schools, Postal offices and other Federal/Local offices are closed Tuesday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the Sanitation Department had scheduled 12-hour shifts, with 2,400 employees on each shift, working from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Nearly 500 salt spreaders will go out before the snow. After two inches of snow have fallen, the city will deploy plows to clear about 6,000 miles of road (that's the distance from New York to Los Angeles back and fort) The sanitation commissioner, Kathryn Garcia, said that 2,000 plows from her agency would be available, along with 242 from other agencies. In other preparations, nearly 500 Department of Transportation workers began treating bridges and overpasses, and emergency crews filled more than 1,000 potholes. And the city’s Office of Emergency Management was coordinating with dozens of local, state and federal agencies.

From New York City to Boston, the heaviest snow and wind will occur from Monday 10pm to Tuesday afternoon with 2"-4" of snow per hour rate.  A 250-mile stretch of the Northeast, home to more than 28 million people, is under a blizzard warning, and another 12 million people are under a winter storm warning. Airlines have cancelled more than 7,000 flights for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Juno was named by the winter storm naming committee at The Weather Channel on Sunday morning. The name Juno is from Roman mythology, a goddess who looked after the women of Rome.gy, a goddess who looked after the women of Rome.

The Philippine Condominium Act

Republic Act No. 4726, or commonly known as “The Condominium Act,” is a law that allows people the right to co-own a piece of property of land aside from the absolute ownership of his/her unit.

The Condominium Act states the rights of the owner and the extent of his/her influence in the property where he/she has purchased the unit. It serves to protect the rights of buyers to ensure that they are not being misled by property owners or developers.
One of its most significant provisions is that it allows foreigners to purchase condos in the Philippines, given that they do not own the land on which it is built.

The implementation of this law has allowed many foreigners to buy units in the Philippines, thus strengthening more the country’s real estate market.

Why buy a condo?

When planning to buy a condominium, the ultimate consideration is your purpose for purchasing one. Is it because you want to move into a better residence to establish your independence? Or are you planning to make it an investment property? Buying a condominium ensures that these two reasons are fulfilled.

Low cost of living, warm tropical climate, and friendly people. These are some of the things that await anyone who wants to own a condominium in the Philippines.

Since the steady growth of the real estate market in 2001, buying condominiums continues to become a trend. The proliferation of BPO companies, looking to harness the potential of the Philippine workforce, has created a huge demand for both commercial and residential properties.

Aside from foreign demand, many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are using their income to purchase condos either as home for themselves and their families or as investments to be liquidated in the future. In fact, some migrant workers purchase properties in the Philippines even while abroad.

Owning a condo in the Philippines today has changed from an extravagance available only to the affluent to a worthy investment that yields many purposes.
